11+ Admissions

Brighton-College-lower-school-deck-chairs.jpg

The Lower School (Year 7 and 8) is very much part of our vibrant College community. Working with the Head of Lower School, a dedicated Housemistress and team of Form Tutors ensure that every child is happy, fulfilled and appropriately challenged.

Please note that 11+ entry to Brighton is directly into the College's Lower School and not to our Prep School. If you have any questions about admissions please email Miss Libby Hyder.

We hope you will find all the information you need on these pages, but if not our admissions team is here to help. Any child who wishes to board from the age of 11 can do so at Handcross Park - Brighton College's beautiful prep school, just north of Brighton.

The ideal way to see the Lower School and meet us is at one of our Open Mornings. You might also like to arrange an individual visit to tour the College and meet the Head of Lower School. Please get in touch well in advance to arrange a visit - email Miss Libby Hyder.

If you would like to apply for a place in our Lower School for your child, please complete a registration form available from our admissions team. We recommend that you register as soon as possible and by the beginning of December of Year 6 at the latest. However, we do offer a few additional places throughout the year if you miss this deadline.

Stage 3 - Assessments and scholarships

We invite all children registered for our Lower School to join us for an assessment day, which takes place in the January prior to entry. They'll be assessed in maths, English, non-verbal and verbal reasoning, and they will have two short pupil meetings with a member of the teaching staff.

All candidates are automatically assessed for an academic scholarship through the papers they sit on assessment day. We offer other scholarships and bursaries too, which you can find on our scholarships page.

Stage 4 - Offers and welcome

Lower School places are confirmed in early February in Year 6. Once you have confirmed your child's acceptance we will send you a welcome pack and an invitation to come and meet their new class during the summer term. All Lower School pupils are allocated buddies from the Sixth Form to welcome them and help them settle in quickly.
