Year 5 enjoyed a historical trip to Lewes Castle where they took part in workshops, re-enacting the Battle of Lewes, taking on the roles of kings, queens, lords and rebels. Later, a storyteller, or “scop,” revealed that the pupils could already speak fluent Anglo-Saxon, as the days of the week are named after Saxon gods, before captivating them with the tale of Beowulf. Pupils also enjoyed exploring the castle’s grounds, admiring the beautiful views and discovering the fascinating exhibits in the museum.
