The Chamber Choir had the privilege of leading worship at Southwark Cathedral this week. The day began with an exciting journey up to London, the anticipation building as we left our familiar surroundings behind. Upon arrival, we headed straight to the Song School to hang up our cassocks before heading out to explore and taste some delicious treats from Borough Market. A few of the tenors and basses took the opportunity to sing in the market for some delicious Turkish Delight in return!
We had a wonderful afternoon rehearsing in the stalls and, as a delightful bonus, the Choir was greeted by the very friendly Cathedral cat, who seemed to approve of our singing.
The Evensong service featured Charles Villiers Stanford’s Evening Service in A (Op. 12), preces and responses by Joanna Forbes L’Estrange and René Clausen’s moving anthem Set Me as a Seal.
Thank you to Mr Dutagheer, Head of Keyboard, for accompanying the Choir. Thank you also to the Head Master, all parents and supporters who joined us - including some familiar faces of former members of the Chamber Choir.
