Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed their three-day residential at the Cuffley Active Learning Centre. Set in Hertfordshire’s peaceful woodland, the centre provided a brilliant backdrop for outdoor learning, teamwork and personal challenge. After arriving on Monday morning, pupils settled into their cosy wooden pods and quickly got stuck into the programme. Working in their “tribes”, they took on a wide variety of activities such as nightline, the gladiator wall climb, axe-throwing, crate stacking and the everpopular laser tag. Cuffley’s “challenge by choice” approach meant everyone could take part in a way that felt manageable, while still encouraging pupils to be brave, persevere and build resilience. The evenings were a real highlight too, with team games, lots of laughter and a campfire to finish the day. Singing together and toasting s’mores under the stars created special memories for all.
Overall, it was a hugely successful trip, with pupils supporting one another, pushing themselves outside their comfort zones and returning home feeling proud of what they achieved.
