Year 5 had a fantastic day out at Wakehurst Kew this term. Over the course of the day pupils were treated to three interesting and inspiring sessions based around the rainforest, a topic they have done in Year 3 and will do again later this year.
The three sessions consisted of a workshop on the different flora and fauna of the rainforest; an art session where pupils were encouraged to pick a topic related to nature; and a walk through the grounds to explore plant adaptions. In the workshop pupils had a great chance to get hands on with some living plants from the rainforest, investigate the spices that are produced from those plants and finally look at other resources that are created from plant products. During the art session pupils had a huge amount of freedom and worked well in groups to produce artwork that linked with nature with the pieces being made entirely from plant and tree parts.
Finally, the pupils had a fantastic walk around some of the grounds with interactive investigations into plant adaptions to the environment. It was a wonderful day out for Year 5 and really inspirational for topics in the future.
