Seven Fourth Form pupils have been recognised in the 11-18 category of the recent Young Writers national poetry competition. Their poems were chosen from over 9000 entries to be included in an upcoming anthology which will be available in May.
This year's theme was 'Imagine' and even though lockdown has meant that we haven't left our homes much, the boys' brilliant poems clearly show that our imaginations are still roaming free! As an additional challenge, the pupils all chose to work within the constraints of a sonnet. It takes considerable skill, patience and perseverance to create a poem within iambic pentameter and with prescriptive Petrarchan or Shakespearean rhyme schemes.
There were over 9000 entries in this year's competition, which makes their recognition all the more impressive. Well done Max, Zach, Lachlan, Dillon, Michael, Jason and Edward!
