The road to hell is long and winding (and accompanied by incredible blues music) in the College production of Hadestown: Teen Edition.
The atmosphere was palpable as you stepped into the Cairns Theatre, where a fabulous band forms the backdrop to one of the most stunning sets we have ever seen. The play reimagines the classic tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice in 1930s America, with music and performances to match. The orchestra begins its descent into Hadestown, welcoming us into a universe of drama, scheming gods and hopeful mortals.
The story follows Orpheus and Eurydice, fighting for survival and love against the challenges of gods and fate. The ensemble used the set beautifully to evoke a bar or the scorching lands of Hadestown, with powerful harmonies and dazzling choreography that made the experience immersive. Their evident camaraderie added joy to every moment.
The entire experience of Hadestown was filled with intrigue, emotion and truly incredible performances.
