Old Brightonian and Harlequins fly-half Marcus Smith (Le. 2011-17) has been named in the 38-man British & Irish Lions squad to tour Australia this summer. The announcement sees Smith included as one of three fly-halves.
This marks Smith’s second Lions tour, having been a late call-up for the 2021 tour to South Africa. His exciting attitude and versatility, with the ability to also play at full-back, appears to have been a significant factor in his selection by Head Coach Andy Farrell.
Smith’s inclusion comes after a season where he has continued to be a key player for Harlequins. His selection means he will join an England contingent of 13 players in the squad, who will aim to secure a series win against Australia. The Lions tour will include three test matches against the Wallabies, as well as six other fixtures across Australia, commencing in Perth on 28 June.
Director of Rugby, Mr Buoy, said of the news: “We are really pleased for Marcus, who has worked tremendously hard over recent years, and continues to play entertaining rugby, which is the Brighton College way.”
