Richard Cairns wins Top 100 Influential People Award

The Top 100 Most Influential People 2026 awards shine a spotlight on the most dynamic, persuasive and powerful leaders from all sectors who are at the top of their game, chosen by an independent panel of judges.

The award has been won by Principal of the Brighton College family of schools, Richard Cairns, who has long been recognised for his pioneering approach, inspirational leadership, and tireless commitment to transforming the educational experience for young people.

This latest accolade further cements Mr Cairns’ position as the most influential and visionary figure in modern education. Already celebrated as the only head teacher in the UK to have been named Tatler Head of the Year twice, under his leadership Brighton College has achieved a string of remarkable national honours - most notably being named The Sunday Times UK School of the Decade, reinforcing its reputation for academic excellence, innovation, and most importantly, kindness.

Reflecting on the award, Mr Cairns said: “I am absolutely delighted and deeply honoured to receive this recognition. But, as ever, any award like this is really about the brilliant people around me. I am fortunate to work with an extraordinary team of teachers and every day I am inspired by our remarkable pupils across the Brighton College family. This award belongs to them as much as to me.
